Development stepsThe contents of this website have evolved continuously since year 2013 when the site was started. This has mostly been done through successive additions, but in the case of the basic ideological material there have been several major changes. An account of how this has happened may be of interest, particularly for those readers who return to this site after some time of absence and who may wonder about the reasons for the changes. When I started the site, my goal was to be able to contribute to more constructive approaches related to the ethnic and religious diversity in our society. I was thinking, in particular, about diversity that manifests itself as different groups that tend to live their own lives, in what are sometimes called parallel societies. During the first years, I devoted myself partly to collecting and reading relevant articles, which was the basis of the clip collection that is now a section within this site. The European refugee crisis in 2015 made these questions even more important, which led me to define a 'project' whose objective was described in the following article:
Frihet, Öppenhet, Solidaritet: Huvudteman för Projektet This explains what issues I want to focus on, and why, and what is my own basic attitude towards them. - At the same time, I became interested in the ideological question of how society should best relate to such special cultural groups. This eventually resulted in a proposal for a set of principles that I called diversity liberalism, because they were based on the basic principles of liberalism and constituted a kind of supplement to these. ----------------------- While working on this, I eventually realized that some of the material in the proposed diversity liberalism should have a broader relevance, and not just for diversity issues. At the same time, one could not claim that they applied to liberalism in all its interpretations. Then it became natural to separate these points and to include them in my formulation of "liberalism as I want to perceive it", and as I wants to call value liberalism. After that, it should be possible to see diversity liberalism as a more limited addition to this value liberalism. This structuring and restructuring of the material is now underway, and it reflected in this section of the website. A first step has taken place by the presentation of the following article characterizing value liberalism in the form of twelve concise points:
Introduce missing title The heading "Value Liberalism - intro" at the top of this page leads to a few pages that provide an easier-to-read introduction to this value liberalism. The heading "Value Liberal Theses" leads to some pages that contain lists of my articles on value liberalism and on Diversity liberal. It now turns out that the latter are largely applicable to the broader concept of value liberalism, but that they need revised and "updated" to fit into the new framework. This is the work now in progress. The headline "Diversity Liberalism", finally, leads to articles like describes diversity liberalism as an extension of value liberalism, or who will do so after updating.
